With strong performances this season, three running backs have dashed their way into the spotlight and onto the Walter Payton Award Watch List. The Payton Award is given to the outstanding player at the FCS level following the regular season.
Yale's Tyler Varga, Indiana State's Mike Perish, Chattanooga's Davis Tull, Colgate's Victor Steffen, Northern Iowa's Michael Schmadeke and North Carolina A&T's Marquell Cartwright were all named FCS Players of the Week.
Top-ranked North Dakota State knows about playing in a tough conference. Its Missouri Valley Football Conference is the only one in the FCS to have more teams in the Top 25 than the CAA. With seven this week, the Valley set its all- time high.
Teams ranked in this week’s FCS Coaches Poll went a combined 19-0 last week, while six teams were not in action. The poll remained rather stagnant as a whole with just one new team entering the top 25 and only two changes among the top 15.
Mike Nebrich of Fordham, Mike Perish of Indiana St., Eli Jenkins of Jacksonville St., Quinn Backus of Coastal Carolina and Michael Schmadeke of UNI have been selected as the College Sporting News All-Stars.
